Parc Arts are delighted to invite you to witness the spectacle of Cath Janes' embroidery art in "Stitching out of Silence." - an exhibition of of hand embroideries about maternal mental health, based on Cath's own experiences.
Cath is a textile artist specialising in hand embroidered fine art that focuses on our bodies and health journeys. Having been hand embroidering anatomy for several years, her work gets commissioned by everyone from art lovers and patients to anatomy enthusiasts and medical professionals. These pieces have been exhibited throughout the UK.
Cath says; "I love subverting the expectations of hand embroidery through photo-realistic work and using the medium to start conversations about the parts of ourselves that we’d often not look at."
In response to many comments over the years, Cath says; "So many people think my hand embroideries are photos (or tiny)... Worse, I’ve even been asked if my art is AI. Just what a fine artist needs after spending a year stitching the real thing, right?"
It's hard to believe each piece has been painstakingly stitched by hand, like this piece (left) which took Cath a year to complete. It's only when you stand before each piece and peer closely do you really understand the layers of detail and effort.
Reminiscent of a Jane Hissey illustration, each piece strikes a helpful juxtaposition between the nature of embroidery (soft and homely) and the content of choice - trauma taken place in the all-too-familiar medial journeys of women.
